VETERANS DAY 11 NOV 2011
A joint Veterans Day Ceremony was held at the AMVETS and VFW Post Homes on 11 November 2011. The guest speaker was Lieutenant Colonel Michael L. Muller, Commanding Officer, Marine Detachment, FT. Benning. The Muscogee County Marshal’s Honor Guard raised the new 6×10 flag over Covenant Woods, the Home of AMVETS Post 9 and VFW Post 12110. Congressman Sanford Bishop arranged for the new flag to be flown over the U.S. Capitol. Covenant Woods plays a pivotal role in the operation of the AMVETS and the VFW, by sponsoring these two great veterans organizations. Covenant Woods contributes it resources to AMVETS and VFW local organizations by allowing these posts to use most of their assets. Area veterans in need of assistance with the U.S. Veterans Administration or other agencies of government can request that a Post Service Officer assist them. There is no charge for any assistance provided to a veterans or his/her spouse. Covenant Woods is a great retirement community. There are hundreds of veterans that enjoy living at Covenant Woods. The local AMVETS and VFW Posts have been affiliated with Covenant Woods, a property of Century Park Associates for over a year and highly recommend its facilities to all veterans and their families.
